Project Impacts

With the set-up of the flagship Hospital and future family medicine clinics, quality treatment will be offered and made available to Mongolians around the country. The specific objectives of the Hospital and clinics are aligned with Mongolia’s national health policies, which aim to enhance healthcare standards to a world-class standard and increase the quality of life for Mongolians. In addition, Mongolian doctors and nurses will have the opportunity to undergo training at the Hospital and be updated with the latest techniques, knowledge and skills, which in turn will equip them with the tools and know-how to better treat their patients.

Enhancing the quality of life and health of Mongolians
Aligned with Mongolia’s overall national health policies, healthcare needs and the health trends of the population, the Hospital will provide services such as health screening which will help to promote health awareness as well as encourage early diagnosis and treatment. By providing quality specialist healthcare services in various disciplines such as oncology, the Hospital aims to enhance the overall health and quality of life for Mongolians. The network of Hospital and family medicine clinics will further complement the Health Ministry’s intention to extend healthcare access to Mongolians throughout the country.

Capacity building - Knowledge and skills transfer
The Singapore Medical Group aims to train local Mongolian doctors and nurses to run the Hospital, thus transferring knowledge and skills in the process. Mongolian doctors and nurses will be sent to Singapore or overseas for training and conferences, and will receive further frequent supervision and support from Singapore doctors. Doctors in this Hospital could consult senior specialists in Singapore on complex cases through internet and communications technology such as video-conferencing. In addition, SMG will be able to transfer its competencies in various specialties to doctors who are training to be specialists. The new Hospital will also introduce new medical approaches of an international standard to Mongolia, most notably with regards to medical technology and laboratory capabilities.

SMG is dedicated to the training of Mongolian doctors and staff as it strongly believes in the upgrading of capabilities of Mongolians to enhance the quality of healthcare in the country.

Infrastructure Upgrade and Technology Transfer
In line with the Mongolian Government’s eHealth initiative to promote the use of e-medical records for patients and to create a population health database, the Hospital would leverage on technology to allow (i) telemedicine diagnosis and treatment and (ii) easy exchange of information between the network of hospitals and family medicine clinics. SMG is committed to the upgrading of infrastructure with regards to IT and equipment in the Hospital, and will work closely with the Ministry of Health and medical schools to explore possible collaborations in infrastructure upgrading and technology transfer. SMG will also participate actively in discussions with the Ministry of Health on issues such as establishing frameworks for patient records confidentiality and security, as well as other issues which are critical to upgrading healthcare standards in Mongolia.

Investment into Mongolia’s economy
With the set-up of the Hospital, it is envisaged that more Mongolians would be encouraged to seek treatment at the world-class facility rather than travel overseas for treatment. In addition, the Hospital aims to attract medical tourists from around the region.
